NOTES:
God is calling you to Himself. He is calling you to make Him your Chosen Portion.
Psalms 16:5 (ESV) 5 You are my chosen portion. My cup. You hold my Lot.
// You are my Chosen Portion (Inheritance):
- I hear the Lord asking us, “Will you choose Me first?”
Mary & Martha
Luke 10:38-42 (ESV) 38 As they went on their way, Jesus entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.39 She had a sister named Mary who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to His teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted by much serving, so she came to Him and said “Do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me.” 41 But The Lord answered, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled over many things, 42 but only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the better portion, which will not be taken from her.”
Has your serving replaced your Savior?
It is so easy to make ministry an idol. When we serve so much that we are not sitting at His feet, adoring Him, listening to His words, we choose the poor portion.
Matthew 7:21-23 (ESV) 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
Working for God is not a replacement for knowing God.
The Lord is a jealous God! He wants your time. He wants your focus. He wants your love. You! He wants YOUR love. He is jealous of YOUR love.
Exodus 34:14 (ESV) 14 For you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God
When we serve without making Him our portion, our strength will fail. Our passion will fail. Our joy will fail. Our love will fail.
Psalms 73:26 (ESV) 26 My flesh and heart may fail but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever
But when we make God our chosen portion, He becomes our strength.
// My Cup:
I hear the Lord ask, “Can you be SATISFIED with me? Can you be content in Me?”
The Cup Represents the Good or Bad that You are Given
Matthew 26:39 (ESV) 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”
We are to be SATISFIED in the Lord, whether circumstances are good or bad.
A PSALM OF DAVID, WHEN HE WAS IN THE WILDERNESS OF JUDAH.
Psalms 63:1 (ESV) 1 O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Do you live a life of adoring the Lord, fulfilled in His presence, or are you always discontent?
The answer is not in changing your circumstance but in changing the object of your adoration. Is accomplishment, or riches, or security, or the approval of others your object of affection, or is it the Lord?
John 4:14 (ESV) 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Only Jesus can satisfy our thirsty souls. Only He can bring true contentment. If not, you will spend your life going to the well in the heat.
1 Timothy 6:6-8 (ESV) 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
What are you looking for, fulfillment or contentment? We must turn it to the Lord.
// You Hold my Lot
I hear the Lord ask us, “Will you trust Me (The Lord) to take care of you?”
Numbers 18:20 (ESV) 20 The Lord spoke to Aaron, “You shall have no inheritance amongst their land nor any portion amongst them, for I am your portion and your inheritance amongst the people of Israel.
We, as men and women of God, as priests unto the Lord, are called to make the Lord our portion. We are to seek Him before we seek any other thing of this world.
- More than land.
- More than money.
- More than provision.
- More than the honor of men.
- More than ANYTHING.
- We seek God first.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV) 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
The Lord is challenging us to put our relationship and service first and trust that He will choose our lot. He will provide all we need for what He has chosen US to do.
Philippians 4:19 (ESV) 19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Psalms 142:5 (ESV) 5 I cry to you, O LORD; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
We must shift and choose Him above all. He must become everything.
Everything.
EVERYTHING to us!
